EXCERPT (Aug. 17, 2016)

I remember having so much more time. Time to write. Time to talk on the phone while standing or sitting in one place. Time to go out to dinner and the movies and then for drinks to talk about the movie instead of endlessly singularly binging down the stream. Yet, there is something so persuasive about those reality shows and the eternal nature of them. I'm a fool for Project Runway and Top Chef and Of course I've seen every Season of  Orange is the New Black. Yet, in each there is a fierce and rude, sometimes violent competition. There are more winners and losers  than ever. Everything is competitive, Skin Wars, Wife wars, Hell's Kitchen even Cake wars for God's sake. You can literally sit in front of that screen for the rest of your life and the trough never runs out of screen wars. And we wonder why we are a bunch of bitchy bullies...

On the way home to the coast from the Pride March in Ukiah today, (damn it was hot) I was thinking about my passion for being in the streets, standing up for equality and respect. I'm driven to do these things, maybe it's something in my genes. I can hardly remember my first protest because I was in a stroller while my mother campaigned for a stop sign a dangerous corner in our neighborhood. She organized all the moms and they blocked the street until the City council agreed.

So I am an activist and will always be. I believe in human rights and being a CannaQueer Comedian I speak about coming out of closets which in both cases it can be a matter of life or death. I'm so in love with the First Amendment, it's the license plate on my car. 1STAMND. I believe we all have RIGHTS and a particular right to life liberty and happiness (fuck the pursuit of happiness, it's just to damn stressful)
So, while I perform Taking the High Road to champion the use of Cannabis I also Emcee and march in Gay pride events to be quite visible.

On Saturday July 16th I called for a Black Lives Matter demonstration in the Village of Mendocino because I'm tired of just posting about shit on Facebook, especially another black man/woman shot or terrorized by police. I was joined by like minded community and we stood on the corner by the Savings Bank with dignity and joy. We also played the music of Ruthie Forster to uplift the protest.
I stood there because I can hardly imagine what it's like to be afraid every time you get in a car that you might be pulled over and killed and the fact that I never ever worry about that. Such privelege I have.

There were many who honked and gave the thumbs up in support, especially people of color passing through, but there were plenty of "All Lives Matter" shout outs. Few of those folks stuck around to discuss the issue as they flicked their opinions out the car window or stomped away, but a couple spoke of their own "white" experience with Police Brutality and somehow we found common ground on our abhorrence for that kind of criminal behavior toward anyone!

It's difficult to address the importance of Black Lives Matter more simply adding the word "too". Black Lives Matter Too. Maybe then we can have a discussion without white america highjacking and demonizing a Human Rights Movement.

There I said it. May Goddess bless the peacemakers. See you in the streets!
